Félix Ares works as a researcher in the Advanced Laser MicroManufacturing Applications (ALMMA) department at AIMEN. It was taking a course about laser technology at University, when he realized he wanted to continue studying the laser technologies fields.

What is your background (Degree, Master Degree, PhD on…)?
I’m an Industrial Engineer with a Master Degree on Photonics and Laser Technologies.

What inspired you to pursue a career in an optoelectronics-related field?
I took a laser technologies course at University just to check out something new for me. The teacher was so passionate about the subject that he got my attention and picked my interest to continue studying the laser technologies fields.

What is your role within the FLOIM project? How do you expect your work in FLOIM project will contribute to your career development?
My role is to support the Project Coordinator with her follow-up and coordination tasks. Since the consortium is composed of companies with very different expertise, I am learning a lot in different fields, which I expect it to help me become more polyvalent.

What are the activities in your current positon that you find the most interesting and why?
As a researcher in the Advanced Laser MicroManufacturing Applications (ALMMA) department at AIMEN, I participate in projects with very different goals and applications, which allows me to learn a lot in a wide range of research fields.

What are the main opportunities you identify in your optoelectronics-related field in terms of career development?
Every year appear new applications where laser can be used, so there is lots of new research to be done in this field. Additionally, there are many laser manufacturing processes that are well founded within the current industry, which is always in need of laser support engineers.

Advice for future professionals in this field? This is a career for you if….
I guess I would suggest not to focus just on this field: It is really important to know how lasers works and what is possible to do with them, but it is just as important to know what other fields could use laser solutions.
